Mission Statement

We are a community-based non-profit society working for the development, improvement and safe use of trails in the Armstrong-Spallumcheen area.  We promote healthy outdoor activity for residents and visitors alike in cooperation with stakeholders and other groups.

The purpose(s) of the Society are:

a)   To develop, operate, maintain and promote a network of non-motorized trails throughout the Armstrong/Spallumcheen area in the province of British Columbia for educational, recreational, environmental and health benefits to the public.

b)   To protect and conserve the natural ecosystems and biodiversity of the areas adjacent to these trails for the many benefits to the environment and the public in the short and long term.

c)   To provide educational signage for the trails and assist educational institutions and groups in learning about the natural ecosystems surrounding the trails.

d)   To work in partnership with other interested parties, organizations and agencies in developing trails, and conserving and protecting the environment in the areas adjacent to the trails.

e)   To advise the Township of Spallumcheen and the City of Armstrong in the revision of their Official Community Plans.

f)    To own land, buildings and chattels such as is, in the opinion of the directors, appropriate to further the other objectives of the Society.

g)   To plan, organize and conduct fund raising activities.

The ASTS advocates healthy outdoor activity in coordination with numerous groups and promotes the trails in Thomas Hayes Ecological Park and on Mt Rose Swanson.  We host environmental fieldtrips for different school groups, participate in local community events to promote outdoor recreation and keep our community informed about what we are doing, and occasionally lead guided hikes.  As a registered non-profit society we are financially dependent on grants, memberships, donations, fundraisers and sponsorships.
